Canary palms, cared for rather than replaced.

Cala Tarida · Ongoing palm care and maintenance

Site & brief

A villa above Cala Tarida, with a curved pool, mature Canary date palms — Phoenix canariensis — and lawn.

Approach

Picudo treatment and monitoring for red palm weevil, palm pruning, and lawn care. Where a garden already has Phoenix canariensis, the palms are treated and monitored rather than replaced — the same reasoning behind planting Washingtonia on new schemes elsewhere, since it is a species the weevil largely leaves alone.
