About Raíz.
Landscape design, planting and maintenance in Ibiza.
Who does the work
A bad pruning cut looks fine on the day. It looks like a mistake three years later, when the tree has settled into a shape it will never grow out of. A plant in the wrong place is the same — fine until the third summer, when it has outgrown the space and something has to come out.
Those decisions get made on site, in person, by someone who will still be here to see how they turn out.
Everyone else working in your garden came up through agriculture, and it shows in what they notice. At a house in Sant Joan, a patch of lawn slightly greener than the rest and soft underfoot turned out to be the main irrigation line, split since the garden was built, running into the ground every morning. That is why the same people come every week. They know what your garden looked like last month.
Mestizo de Ibiza
Many of the gardens Raíz maintains have olive trees on them, pruned and cared for through the year like everything else. Once a year, the fruit from all of them is picked, mixed and cold-pressed together — early harvest, for the purest oil — and a bottle goes to every client whose trees went into it.
Mestizo is the name on the label because that is what it is: a blend of olives from properties all across the island, not any single grove. It is not sold, and it never will be — it's a gift for the clients whose gardens and olive trees Raíz maintains.
